Foreword by Todd Caldecott, Dip. Cl.H, RH(AHG)

It was a great honor and privilege to be invited to participate in this project, and in so doing, to gain special insight into the traditional practice of Ayurveda in Nepal. Although I never had a chance to meet Vaidya Mana before he passed, I have spent time with his son Vaidya Madhu, and know of his unique insights and special abilities, all of which he learned from his father from many years of studying by his side. Today in Nepal Vaidya Madhu and his family represent a great legacy, and are renown throughout the Kathmandu valley for their clinical prowess and commitment to using authentic traditional Ayurvedic remedies, made in small batches, strictly according to the shastras. If anyone wishes to undertake the study of Ayurveda, or receive authentic and effective treatment, Vaidya Madhu and his family are a trustworthy and reliable resource.

The present work represents only a small part of Vaidya Mana’s immense knowledge, and the many books he wrote in Sanskrit, Nepali and English. Some day we hope to have all of Vaidya Mana’s work published, and if I am greatly fortunate, I will again have a chance to participate in this endeavor. I wish to thank both Vaidya Madhu and Alan Tillotson for giving me the opportunity to work on this project, to my wife and family for their untiring patience, and to acharya Vaidya Mana Bajra Bajracharya, who through his great wisdom and insight, sought to preserve the legacy of 700 years of medical knowledge for the benefit and erudition of a whole new generation of Ayurveda enthusiasts.
